William Peace University Showcase Offers a Glimpse of Studies
Raleigh, NC (04/11/2022) — RALEIGH, N.C. - Dozens of students will show off their work, research, and even a virtual reality tour during the 17th annual* Showcase at William Peace University (WPU) on April 19.
The all-day event is a chance for more than students to showcase incredible projects and research done in class. This year, more than 90 students will participate in 20 presentations, 60 internship presentations, an academic awards ceremony, and lunch on the lawn. A full schedule is available.
Classes are canceled for the day so all students can present and watch their peers. Parents and intern employers are invited to attend.
"Learning never stops, and it doesn't have to stop at the classroom door," said Eliza Laskowski, chair of the Showcase Committee and assistant professor of English. "Showcase is part of our immersive learning focus here. We find the experience of compiling a presentation and standing up there to do it helps many of our students as they acquire skills for the workplace. At WPU, we often talk about Courageous Confidence, and this event is part of building the confidence that all students need for their careers."
Ashlynn Charles, a junior musical theatre major, performed at Showcase last year and will again this year as part of the cast of "Zombie Prom," which will perform at the kickoff event. She says she also enjoyed attending sessions led by her peers.
"I think it's a great way for people to see what is going on behind the scenes," said Charles. "It's very interesting to see what our friends are doing and how their work will impact the world."
The sessions take place in various campus classrooms and spaces, including the theatre. The presentations include:
- Video games and a VR tour
- Documentaries
- A presentation on theatre audition techniques
- A debate
- Psychology and biology research
- Readings from PRISM, the campus literary magazine
"The work these students present each year is impressive," said WPU President Brian Ralph. "I'm always amazed at the amount of thought, care, and creativity that goes into each presentation. Students love having this opportunity, and we're so glad to be back in person this year."
*Showcase began in [2005] and has been an annual event since, except for 2020, when the event was canceled due to COVID.
Members of the media are invited to learn about WPU and Showcase during the event. Please contact Jennifer Suarez at 919-508-2208 if you'd like to attend.
