WPU Baseball Goes 2-0 Against Bulldogs

Raleigh, NC (03/08/2022) — WPU baseball took two wins in a doubleheader over Dean College, winning game one 7-6 and game two 11-7. The Pacers now improve to a 7-4 overall record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
Dean College would take a lead early at the top of the 1st on a double to left field from D. Lilja to put them up 1-0. A single from Brett Kemp would score Hunter Ward to tie it 1-1 in the bottom of the 1st. The Bulldogs would take a 3-1 lead, with the Pacers unable to add any runs until the bottom of the sixth. Brett Kemp would double to right field to score Nick Tyler before Hunter Ward would tie it 3-3 on a wild pitch.
A single from Sean Roseborough would score Kemp to put the Pacers up 4-3, with a single from Kevin Gonzalez bringing in Cameron Butler and Shy Thompson to put the Pacers up 6-3. The Bulldogs would rally at the top of the 7th to tie it 6-6. In the bottom of the inning, Jake Norris would step up to the plate with two outs and hit a walkoff single to center field, bringing home Hunter Ward and securing the 7-6 Pacer victory.

GAME TWO
The Bulldogs would take an early 2-0 lead at the top of the first. Logan Barbour would get the Pacers on the board in the bottom of the third, scoring on a passed ball to make it 2-1. A single from Jake Dacunto would tie it 2-2. In the bottom of the fourth, a sac fly from Kevin Gonzalez would bring home Ethan May to give the Pacers a 3-2 lead. Hunter Ward would double to center field to bring in Nick Tyler and Jake Norris to extend the lead to 5-2.
In the bottom of the 5th, Patrick Rogan would triple to right field before scoring on an error to put the score at 6-2. Jake Norris would hit a homerun over right field, bringing in Ethan May for an 8-2 Pacer lead. Logan Barbour and Nick Tyler would score on errors, while a single from Jake Dacunto would drive in Hunter Ward for an 11-2 lead. The Bulldogs would rally at the top of the 6th, bringing in five runs as they trailed 11-7, but the Pacers would hold them to take the 11-7 win.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS

Jake Norris went 1 for 1 in game one with his walkoff single, before adding 2 RBIs and a homerun in game two.

Hunter Ward went 3 for 4 in game one while notching 2 RBIs in game two.

Brendan Shea tallied 4 strikeouts in game one, while Nathaniel Varnier added 2.
