WPU receives $1 million gift thanks to Alumna Peggy Britt '56

Raleigh, NC (11/18/2022) — RALEIGH, NC - William Peace University received a $1 million gift, thanks to the generosity of alumna Peggy Britt '56 and the Bill and Peggy Britt Foundation.
The gift, announced on November 17, 2022, by President Brian C. Ralph, Ph.D., at the 7th Annual State of the University Address, served as a highlight of the event. Dr. Ralph uses the annual address to share stories of innovative thinking and courageous confidence with WPU supporters, partners, and friends.
"This gift will have such an incredible and long-lasting impact on WPU. I am so grateful to Mrs. Britt for her support of the University and her belief in our work," said Dr. Brian Ralph, WPU President. "Because of her generosity, students will be able to find courageous confidence and pursue their dreams."
Britt is passionate about impacting students at her alma mater, having contributed to WPU for years. She hopes this gift can enable students to get started on their own roads to success without financial burdens.
Her gift will support students through both the Peggy Britt Scholarship and the Peggy Britt Endowed Scholarship. The Peggy Britt Scholarship supports new students at WPU, with a preference for first-generation college students and students with financial needs. The Endowed Scholarship generates earnings to support students with similar backgrounds. Because it is an endowed fund, it will have a long-lasting impact on the University.
Along with this, Britt's gift is also part of WPU's "22 Courageous Gifts in 2022" giving campaign - a campus-wide fundraising initiative at WPU. The initiative seeks 22 major gifts that will provide
our students with the resources they need to learn through immersive experiences, build upon their courage and develop the confidence needed to turn their passion into purpose.
"I was the first person in my immediate family to attend college. I believe that the things I learned at Peace made my life richer and more meaningful than it would otherwise have been," she said. "I hope that my support of Peace will enable others to have that same experience.
